Classroom Procedures
When you come in...
By the time the final bell rings, you need to be in your seat prepared to learn. There are several items of business that need to be taken care of as soon as you enter the classroom.
FirstAs you enter the room, you need to grab your composition book. Composition books will be located at the front of the classroom, with easy access.
|
SecondPhones need to be put away. This is not an option. Put them in the bucket.
|
ThirdBegin work on vocabulary or warm-up. You will have a task EACH DAY that you will need to start work on immediately after you pick up your composition book and put your phone away.
|
Daily Notes
Notes will be almost an everyday occurrence. Notes are essential to understanding, learning, and applying the content to be taught in this class. This semester, we will be using a Three-Point system for taking notes.
First PointFor the first point in these notes, you will download a powerpoint and the guided notes for the section. The notes will have blanks that you will fill in using the powerpoint. You will ned to read the powerpoint as you complete the guided notes. When you are done, close your computer and we will continue on to the next point.
|
Second PointFor the second point, you will not be have your computer open. You will need your composition book and a writing utensil. We will go over the notes together. I will fill in the holes and explain the significance of the events in the grand scheme of things. As we go through the notes, you will listen and take notes in your composition book.
|
Third PointFor the third point, you will be given a set of questions to answer. You will find the answers to these questions in your notes. These are the questions you will study for our weekly quizzes. Sometimes these quizzes will be open notes, sometimes closed notes, sometimes collaborative, and sometimes independent.
|
Quizzes
When?Quizzes will occur every Friday. They will encompass cumulative content from the previous week and before. Content of these quizzes will come from the notes we have covered. If you study the questions from each set of notes, you will be prepared for the weekly quizzes.
|
Quiz Corrections? If you make below a 70 on a quiz, you will be required to do corrections on your quiz during Power U. If you cannot make it on the following Friday, you will be assigned to Wednesday to do corrections. If you made above a 70 and desire to do corrections on the quiz, you will have until the following Wednesday. In doing corrections, you will be able to earn half credit on the questions you missed.
|
Instructions for CorrectionsStudents will identify the incorrect answers on their quiz. They will research the question and find the correct answer. After finding the correct answer, the student will then write at least one sentence as to why that is the correct answer.
Step 1: Write the Question. Step 2: Write the Correct Answer Step 3: Write why you choose the incorrect answer. |

Students are required to attend 4 Power U sessions per quarter if they are not making a 70 or above. This will be recorded as a TEST GRADE. All students are allowed to attend any PowerU Session, but specific students will me required to attend on certain days. Test grade is available for everyone.
TuesdaysIf you are making a grade less than 70, you are required to attend PowerU on Tuesdays. We will work together on completing missing work, or recovering material.
|
WednesdaysIf you made less than a 70 on the previous week's quiz, and have not yet stopped by to do your quiz corrections, you will be assigned to PowerU on Wednesday.

Technology Agreement
- If I have a phone in my possession, I will turn it into the holder at the back of the room. If I do not and my phone is spotted (in my desk, in my hand, etc.), I will gladly allow Ms. Lippard to take it. (If I don't turn my phone in, I know that extra credit in this class is not an option for me-ever.) *
- If my iMessage screen is visible at ANY time and for ANY reason, I understand that I will lose 5 points off a quiz grade AND that Ms. Lippard will report me and I will become a "standard user." *
- If I am spotted playing any game (soccer boy, octagon, etc.) and I have not ASKED PERMISSION to play, I will lose 5 points off a quiz. I understand that I will lose 5 points every time this happens. *
- If I have a problem accessing a file, program, etc. I will not sit at my desk like a knot on a log, I will ask my classmates and/or Ms. Lippard to help me. I will not give up until my problem has been solved. *
- I understand that these rules are for my own good and that Ms. Lippard loves me and wants me to be successful. I understand that when she is gone, I will be expected to follow the same rules as I do now. *
- When Ms. Lippard asks me to close my laptop screen, I will do it. I will not have to be asked twice. I understand that having to be asked repeatedly to do something makes me look stupid and will result in a loss of 5 points off a quiz grade each time it happens. *
- This is the best one yet- I understand that if I have no technology issues from now until report cards that Ms. Lippard is willing to give me a whole point on my final average. *
Integrity Contract
- The use of a cell phone during class at any time without EXPLICIT permission from the teacher will be considered cheating. *
- Airdropping assignments is cheating. Changing the font and adding two words doesn't make it "your work." *
- Copying and pasting from the internet is cheating. *
- Having any other windows or documents open during testing is cheating. *
- Copying someone's homework (or texting them for answers) is cheating. *
- Taking photos of assignments, tests, or quizzes and sharing them with others is cheating. *
- Looking at someone else's paper or computer screen during a test or quiz is cheating. *
- Talking during a test or quiz to anyone other than a teacher (to ask a question) is cheating. *
- Sharing test or quiz information with students in classes after your class is cheating. *
- I will not act the least bit upset if my teacher asks me to make my screen more visible (including turning the screen, making the screen brighter, etc.). *
- I have read and understand the consequences for cheating in this class. *
